Reflections and Looking Forward

Happy New Year!

I can't believe how fast last year went by. I've been busy putting away the Christmas stuff, purging as I go. I still have my big tree to take down but I've caught a cold and about all I did was put away the little tree before collapsing on the couch. Maybe tomorrow my head will be clear enough to finish it up.

Anyway, I want to just say "Thank you" to all my readers. I never expected to have very many people reading my little blog and had no idea the friendships I'd make. You each brighten my day and yes, affirm me. I so appreciate each and every one of you!

2016 saw several projects started and some even finished!

I was able to refresh the guest bathroom and BBQ area at the city house and the fence was replaced in the backyard along the side of the yard.

We started work closing in the art studio,

redid the kitchen here at the farm which was a big project to cross off,

and perhaps the biggest thing to happen was our sweet daughter getting engaged to a wonderful young man.

Which brings me to this year. We have a wedding to plan and get ready for! That means we have projects at the farm to get done/wrapped up:

Clean up and create flowerbeds and make the grounds pretty for the wedding
Wedding spot

1. Finish the art studio (we made good progress this past week!)
2. Beadboard on the kitchen ceiling and move light in dining room to a better location
3. Dress up the fireplace wall
4. Maybe close in the garage? Definitely add some storage in there and paint.

As I mentioned, we were able to get a lot done on the art studio the week between Christmas and New Years. If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen pictures of the windows being added. We couldn't have gotten as much done without the help of our son, Jay, and Bruce's brother Barry, so a big shoutout to them for their help!

Plus Jay spent several hours of raking leaves and digging out thorny briars - I'm now not feeling so overwhelmed by the amount of work that needs to be done. Amazing what having someone help you get started can do! My sweet mother-in-law also helped rake leaves and her help was very appreciated too! (There are a lot of leaves)! All I can say is y'all are awesome!

(Be sure to come back on Friday to see the progress on the art studio!)

So welcome 2017. I think you're going to shine!

  4. I love how you shared what you accomplished in 2016. Moving forward is such a great experience and closing in the garage was my husbands big task when we first moved into our home, he turned it into a movie room. Feel better soon and look forward to reading your journey in 2017.

    1. Thanks Carole. I've had a nice break and it was fun to look back on what we accomplished this past year. I'm looking forward to this year - it promises to be exciting!
As for our garage - we think it would make a better living room than the little one already there. I'd love to turn it into a library/study room. It's just the right size for a cozy space!

  6. Happy New Year, Cecilia ! It DOES give you a little more hope when you have people helping you with the chores! Makes you see the light at the end of the tunnel a little sooner! And those of us who have a bit more acreage in the country can appreciate that. Changing a few little things in the bathroom can make an amazing difference.... looks much lighter! Looking forward to seeing what you share with us this year. Take care! No broken legs !! :-)
