Painting Class in the Vineyard and a Lampshade Makeover

This past Saturday, I taught a painting class in the vineyard next door to our farm. The Dogwood Trails Celebration is going on in Palestine so we thought it would be good to offer a related activity. Ten ladies came and we had a blast!

I love how everyones' paintings turned out. All different, all wonderful!
Thank you Sabor a Pasion for hosting us. Let's do another class soon!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of the first things we made for the farm kitchen was this coffee cup lamp (you can read about it by clicking here). I have loved the way it added some whimsy to my kitchen. Over time, it moved from the corner on crates to the kitchen counter.

But what I haven't loved is its shade...I thought the burlap would be the perfect touch for my farmhouse kitchen. I even added some mini pom-poms to the edge. Cute, right?

Not quite; the burlap wasn't working for me. I've discovered I don't care a whole lot for burlap. It's too primitive for my taste.  It works for a few things but on this lampshade, no. I decided to cover it up with some red and white checkered fabric.

After tearing my fabric into strips, I started gluing them on. All the way around and this is what I have now:

Much, much better! Still has that farmhouse feel, but with a bright touch of color.

This was an extremely easy redo. I didn't even pull off the tiny pom-poms. I just wrapped the fabric right over them.
Excuse the mess and blurry pics. It was late and I didn't
clear the counter off... Just keeping it real for ya! :o)

I have plans for a better location for this lamp. It involves another project I need to work on. Maybe in a couple of weeks? Think cart and  coffee station and you'll be on the right track!

Oh, and the telephone table? The weather is going to cooperate this week and I have the time to tackle it so stay tuned!

See you soon!

    1. Aw, thanks Susan. It's not that I hated the burlap, it just felt blah. I'm liking the red and white checked fabric much better!

  3. I love your lamp, Cecilia, but I wished you would have expanded on your painting class. That's something I've thought about for my craft class. We have a former art teacher in my class who would do great with something like this but I will have to give her a push to do it. Did you have to supply the easels and paint?

  4. The painting class sounds like it was a lot of fun.

Such a cute lamp...perfect for the farmhouse. I love the re-do on the lampshade too.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with the telephone table. I need some inspiration to do something with mine.

    1. Thank you, Elisa. It's really too tall for my counters but I'm hoping to have a spot for it soon where it fits. If not, it works where it's sitting now. Thanks for stopping by.

  12. Oh I bet your art class was perfect, Cecilia. My Mom and I visited a place this past week that sure made me think of you ~ I'll be sharing it soon. We got a cold spell with the rain, were y'all affected? Have a lovely weekend!

  13. I'm so glad you stopped by Cecilia, because your blog is one that I no longer gett updates on due to changing emails. The forwarding didn't quite happen as I had hoped, so I'll be signing up again.

I've taken a few painting classes (you saw one result in today's post) and one thing I have to say is you do NOT have to know how to paint to have fun and produce something to be proud of! The women that took your class look so happy at their results, as they should be. I'm sure you were a fun teacher, and yes, you most definitely should pursue doing this again.

I love the lamp, and that was an interesting technique you used. Never would have thought of that!

    1. I figured you had been too busy to comment. Glad you will sign back up!

No, you don't have to know how to paint to do these types of paintings...they are meant to be fun, not stressful! I'm working on a new design for the next class. Can't wait to do it again!

I was just going to tear long strips and wrap the lampshade but my fabric wasn't long enough for that...you figure things out when you have to, right? Gluing it on each edge worked perfectly. Still deciding if it needs anything else but I rather like it as it is so probably not.

Glad you stopped in. Have a great weekend!

  14. So cool that you teach a class! And everyone's painting looked great! I like the lamp better with the red shade and I LOVE burlap but agree that it needed a little extra umph... Very pretty. Love how you kept it real with the stuff on the counter. It's a job taking perfect pics... moving junk from one place to another, at least that's how I do it .. LOL!
