Vacation - Boston and Beyond Part 1

We just got back from a week long vacation that started in Boston and ended at Cape Cod. We have 3 couples we travel with; can I say they are just plain fun?

Since we covered a lot of ground and I have loads of photos, I'm only sharing the Boston portion of our trip in this post.

We left bright and early Saturday morning along with what felt like millions of other people. It took what seemed like forever to get through airport security but finally we were at our gate and waiting to board the plane. We're ready to have fun!

When we arrived, we took the train to our condos we were renting then walked over to Faneuil Marketplace to get lunch. Lots going on since it was the 4th of July weekend.

Saturday was also our anniversary - unknown to me, Bruce had made dinner reservations at a French restaurant there in Boston. The food was fantastic! It had a charming outdoor area along the street and since the weather was so nice, we ate outside. (I didn't get a very good picture of it. I wish I would have thought to get the waiter to take our picture! There were a lot of container plants which I didn't capture in my photo). I never dreamed I'd be in Boston on our anniversary. Pretty cool!
After dinner, we walked back to our condo. Along the way, we stopped at "Cheers" and like everyone else, took a selfie in front of the sign.
Of course we had to go in and have a drink at the bar. :o) Did you watch that show? It was cool to see the replica of the bar set.

The next day, we all headed to the Boston Museum of Fine Art. My friend Mira and I really wanted to see the John Singer Sargent paintings.

On the green line to the museum
Once inside the museum, we saw this bike sculpture:

Made for a good picture spot. :o) We did get to see the Sargent paintings plus many of our other favorite artists before we had to leave for our lunch reservation.

After lunch, we walked to the USS Constitution and USS Cassin Young at the Charleston Navy Yard National Park.

Enjoying the view of the Charles River
We got to walk around the Cassin Young and see what a WWII boat looked liked. We had toured the Constitution the last time we were in Boston 6 years ago. It's in dry dock right now but you can still tour it. Very fascinating to see.

Afterwards, we rode the ferry across the river and walked the short distance to our restaurant for supper. It was in a really cool old building there on the wharf. We ate lots of seafood on this trip! Yum...

Here we are relaxing on the rooftop of our condos.

The next day was the 4th of July!
We all dressed in our red, white, and blue (or Red Sox) clothes and headed to Fenway Park to enjoy a baseball game between the Texas Rangers and the Red Sox. Our friend Mark, grew up in the Boston area, so we all became Red Sox fans that day just for him. :o)
Wearing my new hat that I got as a souvenir

Enjoying our first Fenway Frank
It was great fun if a little warm once the sun hit our seats - with three innings left, we got up and wandered around in the shade a bit. Then we returned to our seats for the last part of the game. Hurray! They won!
I just may have become a baseball fan that day - Fenway is such a cool ball field!

Leaving the game
I found my street - haha!
We wrapped up our day with the firework show along the banks of the Charles River. We didn't get super close but we were close enough to enjoy the display.
Beautiful sunset while waiting for firework display to start
Quite the fireworks show! Love the reflections in the water!
I just have to say though, this Texas girl got cold sitting there. It was a little surreal - it's never cold on the 4th in Austin. LOL.

And that was our Boston portion of our trip. Next time, I'll share Rockport, Springfield, Stockbridge and Cape Cod. Until then have a great weekend!

  9. Yes, we went to Cheers when we were in Boston. We took a trip there with our girls when they were young but we had a blast. In Mass we went to Boston, Martha's Vineyard, Salem, and Concord then in Maine we visited Bailey Island, Bar Harbor, and Camden. we were trying to make it to Arcadia National Park but ran out of time. Can't wait to finish your vacation series.
