Closets Refresh

Whee! I had a whole week at the farm last week.
dry creek that's not dry right now
It all started off with a trip to Canton with my girl on Friday, then back again with son number 1 on Saturday. It was Megan's second trip and Jay's first one. They each found some fun treasures. Jay wasn't sure if he'd want to stay long and ended up having a blast. He looked at vintage bikes, old signs, and old suitcases. And yes, he came home with one of each. Megan got a tiered rolling cart and a vanity case she intends to store art stuff in. I got some small items. it was about spending time with them more than anything.

Bruce and I then took them to supper Saturday night at Sabor a Pasion. Oh yum! So love this place. The food is fantastic and Simon and Christine are gracious hosts. Truly a wonderful find in the country. :o)

Sunday, the family left and headed back to the city leaving me and the dogs behind. I was sad to see them go but was excited about all the projects I had planned for the week.

I started with my closet project - pulled everything out, making piles of things to keep or get rid of. (I did not take before pictures or of the mess all over the room. Too yucky to share!)
empty closet
I used the same paint I used on the bedroom walls (Revere Pewter) and started painting. Gave the ceiling a fresh coat of white and touched up the wall paint. By now, it was close to supper so I called it quits for the day.

The next day, I painted the trim. When it dried, I started putting everything back in. I was determined to get everything off the floor if possible. Mission accomplished! (Except for shoes but everything else is on the shelves!)

It looks so much nicer and I can find stuff now! Nothing like a fresh coat of paint and just organizing all the stuff.

Next up was the guest room closet - again, I pulled everything out but this time I I just painted the back wall and gave the shelves a light sanding in place. Now it's all nice and neat. Amazingly, everything fit on one side of the closet - the other side is mostly empty.
Actually managed to get almost everything on one side. And it's all nice and neat where I can find it
Empty shelves....amazing!
I can't tell you how good it feels to have the closets organized and clean. Those projects are checked off my list!

I also got two more big projects done. Come back later and see what I did with these:

and with this area:

Until then!

Cecilia

  1. What an inspiration! I need to work on a few closets myself but the one I did do I covered cardboard boxes with brown paper and then took a floral roll of Duct tape and went around it. Duct taped the shelf ends, too. How much better it looks all neat and tidy! Did I mention I did it because I'd stuffed so much stuff on one shelf it pulled out from the wall? My good man fixed that and then added shelves on one side. A Grand came to help paint it one day - a family effort! btw, what a God-filled sunset! Jennifer

    1. Sounds really cool, Jennifer. I have a couple of boxes I should cover...maybe the next round. Ha. I have to confess the sunset picture was after the Memorial Day rain storm. The sky was just magnificent !

  2. How fun! A week to do whatever your heart desired. Sounds like you got a lot done too...:) I started on my closet too. I am getting rid of about 50% of my clothes. I never wear most of them and the closet is so stuffed I can barely squeeze a hanger in it! You're inspiring me to finish the project. Love the picture of the sunset and Buddy and Herbie! I wanted to let you know you showed up as a no reply commenter on my e-mail. Also, I don't know if you saw my other post, but I am having a fun giveaway. Check it out! Have a wonderful week.

    Hugs, Vicky

    1. I got rid of clothes too. I didn't see your giveaway...will go check it out. I'm off to fix my no reply status. Seems to pop over to that periodically. Sigh. Thanks for letting me know.

  3. Doesn't it feel great to get closets done? That seems to be the hardest chore for me to keep up! Can't wait to see your next project! Hugs, Cecilia

    1. Yes it does, Cecilia! I always dread doing them but love the results when I'm done. I had a productive week. Wish I was always this motivated! Lol.
      Hugs back!

  4. I don't know about you, but I love the feeling to have a couple of days to myself so I can check off a few things on my to-do list! (Something tells me you love it too).m

Having an empty shelf is practically nirvana! Just goes to show how many things we hold on to that we really don't need or want.

I have a feeling your porch is in for a makeover. ;) Till next time...

    1. Yes, it's wonderful to have some time with no one around to, ahem, give their opinion about what I'm doing. I painted the chairs-always meant to but Bruce talked me out of it at the time. So, I just did it when he wasn't around. ha.
Yeah, why do we keep so much stuff we're not using? I'm in a purging frame of mind. Need to keep on going here in the city and getting rid of more stuff. gah!
um, why yes! What makes you think that? 'Cause it's a mess now? LOL.

  5. It does feel good doesn't it! I had to smile as the chicken on its side is the same as mine that sits on top of my fridge! Have a wonderful weekend xx

    1. Yes it sure does! Really? You have the same chicken? I bought mine at a flea market. Love them both but they are getting a rest for a bit. I'll pull them back out and put them on display again in a couple of months. They are so cute!

  6. You're so lucky to have such spacious closets Cecilia - and I agree - when closets are clean and organized everything seems " right " !
Those are gorgeous chairs - wow - can't wait to see what you've done !
Wish you had pics of what your kids went home with - what kind of blogger are you LMHO???

    1. Lol, terrible! I never seem to have my camera or think to take a picture with my phone. I'm hopeless. Ha. I'll seek out into the garage and snap a pic of Megan's cart. She's in the process of painting it.
Hope you've seen the next post - it has the chairs all done.

  7. Hi Cecilia! What a blessing--time alone to do chores and projects :) You are very ambitious, though, painting them and everything. Not sure I'm up to that, though I'd certainly love it. I'm like anonymous above, I was forced to reorganize my master closet last year when one whole side pulled away from the wall--ugh. It was a nightmare, but I'm so happy to have it clean and organized. Hope you have a great week :)

    1. Fortunately, one closet is smaller than the other and we don't live there full time yet so there's really not that much stuff. They are a pain to do, for sure! But it is nice to have it all done. Thanks for dropping in. Have a wonderful week.

  8. You are one energetic lady Cecilia! I bet it feels good to know where everything is and to put your hands on it if you need it. I had to laugh when I saw that turkey laying on it's side on the shelf lol, (he's just waiting around for November to come) I think I have one just like it. I can't wait to see what you do with those chairs.

  10. I have a closet that seriously needs sorting out now, especially as the door keeps opening! It's the next job on my list so thanks for the inspiration Cecilia xx
