Pew Redo

Remember the small church pew I scored from our church? It looked like this:

Help me!!

I tore off the old seat cushion (yikes! it was glued down!!) then I stained and painted it:

Ahhh,  I feel better!

It needed more so I added some words to the back, made a simple cushion, then moved it to the foot of our bed:

I added a throw and a book to make it look cozy:

This is sitting across from it - I intend to hang it  and put lights behind it:

I tweaked the dresser top some more too:

Texas lamp to go on my British dresser :o)
My horse books...perfect for a farm

Some of my Grandmother's old textbooks
rustic cross from a friend

I think the master bedroom is coming along rather nicely. I am working on some artwork for the walls that go with my Abbey style/places I've been theme. ( I like mixing styles...mainly because I can never settle on just one!)

It feels peaceful. I'm liking the way the room is evolving. Simple, cozy, perfectly us.

Have a simply wonderful week!

  2. Just beautiful Cecilia - love it at the end of the bed !!!
I have a stained window the same shape as yours - it used to sit in the garden actually with lights behind it :)
AND I love that dresser ( buffet? not sure ) in the background!

    1. Thanks Suzan! I found my stained glass window at a garage sale...they said it came from New Orleans. What kind of lights did you use behind yours? I was thinking a rope light for mine. The dresser is a redo you can read about here: http://thebfarm.blogspot.com/2013/05/hidden-beauty-revealed-dresser-redo.html. I had originally thought to use it in the laundry room but really needed a larger dresser in the bedroom so that's where it is...I like it there! At least for now. haha! Have a wonderful week!
      hugs back,
      Cecilia

  4. Fabulous job on the pew! Pews are so versatile...if you get tired of it in your bedroom you can probably find a dozen other uses for it. If I ever come across one, it's coming home with me ;)

    1. That's for sure, Doreen. They can go anywhere- I've seen them used for porches, dining rooms, and entryways. Their use is endless. I'm loving it!

  5. Very pretty! I always see the longer ones offered for sale around here - wish I could find a shorter pew like yours for crafting!

    1. Thanks, Melody. I really lucked out with this one as it was one of two and someone had already gotten the other one. I have a friend who had a long one cut down to the size she wanted. You can't tell it was ever any longer.

    1. Thank you, Christal! So glad you dropped by. I used Benjamin Moore paint mixed with white grout. The recipe is 2 Tablespoons of white unsanded tile grout mixed with 2 Tbls. water, then mixed into 1 cup of paint. It is a homemade chalk paint recipe. It covers well and sands nicely. I used Minwax dark walnut stain and spray painted the seat black. The paint color is Shenandoah Taupe. Glad you like it.
