Christmas Decorating Part 2 - The Table

My table is all set for Christmas. I went with a silver and woodland theme with red touches.

I started off with a silver polka dot table cloth, a pine garland, then added silver placemats

My salad plates are new. I love the English village look of them.

Then I nestled my Mercury Glass candlesticks, deer, and large ornaments in among the pine garland.

I placed my red and silver jingle bell napkin rings on my green cloth napkins. Hm, I wonder if I should get silver napkins?

I love the glitter of the silver mixed with the touches of red and how the pine garland brings in nature.  After Christmas, I can switch out the red plates with white ones and remove the jingle bell napkin rings. Maybe I'll find some snowflake ones or something silvery. Anyway, I'm loving my table in its Christmas finery.

Christmas Memories

I love Christmas! It is such a special time of year where we make memories for our families. Thanks to Patience Brewster, who happens to be one of my favorite artists,  I was inspired to take a walk down memory lane and share some of my favorite holiday memories. Patience Brewster is an artist and designer of Christmas ornaments. They are absolutely adorable!

When we were young, we would ask our parents how early we could get up and Mom and Dad would give us a time.

Of course, we always woke up way before the designated time, so we would all pile into one bedroom and excitedly "whisper" among ourselves, waking the entire household. 

Then at the set upon time, we would wake our parents (lol), Mom would go turn on the Christmas tree lights,  Dad would wake the older siblings and get the camera, then when everyone was assembled, we were allowed to go to the tree. 

Oh, the excitement and wonder of that first glimpse of the tree! It was so magical.

When we had children, we carried on the same tradition. They would ask what time they could get up and we would hear them "whispering" excitedly in one of their rooms until the official time. Then I'd turn on the tree's lights while Bruce got the camera.

I wonder if they will carry the tradition on. It makes me smile to think of someday grandchildren, then great-grandchildren, and so on, waking up early, excited for Christmas morning. :-)

How I treasure those memories especially now that my parents and oldest brother are gone and my children grown.

Thank you, Patience Brewster , for inspiring me to take this walk down Memory Lane. I'm reminded of how special family traditions are.

Christmas Decorating Part 1

The house is clean and the decorating done.

Bruce and I spent the weekend putting up all the Christmas decor - he did the outside and I did the inside.

We had a few detours along the way - a leaking disposal and wet under the sink area, leaky faucet, new dog house to build and paint, reshuffling of their kennel inside which meant unloading and moving the bookcases down. Not to mention having to put up all the Fall decor.


The new doghouse has a shelf on top so I can put a few items on it.

I'm loving my new faucet...it has a pull out sprayer. Very snazzy!

It all got taken care of and now the city house is decked out for Christmas.

Let's start with the drink station.

I used my Christmas platter, red mugs, sugar bowl, and assorted drinks - hot chocolate mix, tea bags, and mulling spices for cider:

Marshmallows in a mason jar and of course the coffee pot and coffee:

And of course we need peppermint sticks to stir with:

All is ready to make a yummy hot drink to help keep you warm on a cold wintery night (or day). Come on over and we'll sit and share our favorite Christmas project while we sip on our drink of choice.
