A Texas Anniversary Trip - Part 1

This past weekend Bruce and I celebrated 35 years of marriage! We decided to go to Fredericksburg for the weekend. We left early Saturday morning and headed out through the beautiful Hill Country, stopping in Johnson City along the way.

We toured LBJ's boyhood home. It's hard to wrap my head around the no electricity or running water thing.

The old windmill was cool but hard to get a good picture of it with the tree.

From there we drove on to Becker Vineyard:

We did the tasting and the tour. At the end of the tour, they took us down into the cellar. Love that ceiling!

How'd you like to eat at this table? Pretty cool!
We bought several bottles of wine after the tasting. :)

Then we drove onto Fredericksburg where we ate lunch at Hondo's. Yum...good burgers!
We sat outside on the patio as it was a very pleasant day!
 Selfie!

After lunch, we walked down main street - so much to see!

We were killing time until we could check into our cottage. (I'll share that in Part 2, already have lots of pictures in this post)

After checking in and putting our stuff away, we headed to Pedernales Brewing Co. - Because Fredericksburg is a German town. And beer.
.
We got to taste 5 different brews and tour the brewery. I think I found a couple of new brews I like!

Then it was back to the cottage to change and get ready for supper. We decided on Silver Creek on Main. They had live music and we each got a German dish. It was delicious!
We sat outside because of the live music but also the whole outdoor patio was shaded by this huge tree. It was super nice!

Bruce was being silly and making faces.
"You're taking my picture again?"
It was a wonderful first day. We ended the day with a swim at the cottage. Next time, I'll share pictures of the cottage plus our next day excursions. We had a blast.

PS
If you're looking to do a Texas wine tour, Fredericksburg is the place to go. There are numerous vineyards and wineries along HWY 290. Here's a website that has those and then some: http://texaswinetrail.com

Next time, please add Kerrville as one of your stops and come see your blogging friends, Cecelia and me.
