A Peek At My Flowers

I love flowers. My grandmother and mom always had beautiful flowerbeds and enjoyed working out in the yard. I inherited that love from them. Would you like to take a peek at what's blooming in my yard right now? Ok, let's go look.

First up are my old fashion day lilies. These are from my mom who got them from her mother.
Then my favorite day lily - deep red with a green throat. I can't remember the name:
Oxalis also from my mom- they will die back once it gets hot but right now, they are blooming up a storm - even my purple oxalis.
The Russian sage is just starting to bloom:
The Esperanza or Texas Yellow Bells are very happy! And the bees are loving it!
Wild coreopsis or tickseed - they reseed themselves quite readily. I got the seeds from a pasture somewhere.
The shrimp plant (also from my grandmother and mom) is happy in its spot:
For my shady spots, I put these caladiums in pots. They aren't flowers but I love all the different colors of the leaves.

The catmint I just planted for mosquito control is taking off:
The angel wing begonia is full of blooms:
My crinum lilies (from mom) are starting to bloom:
Last but not least, my oak leaf hydrangea is blooming this year! It's so pretty. It's my first hydrangea (well, first one to survive.)  It's planted at the farm, close to the front door, so I get to enjoy it as I go in and out.
That's it for now! I noticed several other plants getting ready to burst into bloom. What's growing in your garden?

  1. Beautiful Cecilia! I have lots of tiger lilies at my house and a couple of other random things but not as much as you. I am looking forward to working on my yard again this year!

  2. I just love that you have flowers from your Mom and Grandmom, so special. Everything is looking so pretty and happy.

The things blooming in my yard are mostly in pots...from the nursery ;)

  3. Lovely plants and beautiful photos. Love the deep red day lily and most important, love that some of your plants are bringing sweet memories of your Mom and Grandmother. I hope to get some flowers growing as soon as the ground dries up some. Thanks for sharing your pretty blooms. Have a great week.

  4. So pretty Cecilia! Things are a little slow in my neck of the woods, so it's nice to see a yard like yours :).

I agree the caladiums are great for shade. Putting them in pots is a good idea. You've inspired me!

  5. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get into the garden much to check on blooms. We went to Utah for a bit, then came home to flooding a few days ago. I'm praying we don't see more but I'm afraid of what tonite might bring. I hope you're not affected by all of this. Daylilies are one of my favorite plant families and I have many that need to go into a new sunny spot, thanks to a tree coming down. A few years ago I went to a plant sale where they were giving away named daylily seeds, and I was able to start them all! I can't wait to see how they turn out. But that may have to wait since we are now more serious about moving with the flooding worse and worse each time it rains. oh.... I think your "russian sage" may be salvia ovata/heartleaf skullcap because of the larger leaves. I have some caladiums that I need to plant. I grow them for Steve because it's one of the few things that he likes about my horrible hobby. :-)

  6. Your photos are beautiful and so are your flowers. I love caladiums but I don't have any this year. Might have to remedy that!

  8. Good Afternoon Cecilia,
How pretty your garden grows:) I love all of the cottage type flowers and knowing that they came from your families gardens, makes them all the more special.
I wish I had some of my Mom's flowers. She had a beautiful garden too-but Idaho is a long ways away! I did plant one little peony plant in her honor-I hope it survives our crazy Texas weather.
So looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
Have a lovely weekend, my friend.

  9. Beautiful flowers - I love this time of year everything looks so amazing. Those crinum lilies are wonderful. I have plants in my garden from my mom as well and before that they originated from my grandma's garden too. Kind of fun! Was so nice to meet you yesterday and looking forward to hearing more about your farm.
