Host Chairs and Fall Table Decor

I'm on a roll - two posts in one week! It seems like I'm either extremely productive or not at all. But when you're on a roll, go with it, I say.

Yesterday I showed you my dining room table and chairs all newly painted and redone. But I left you with a promise to show you my new host (aka arm) chairs.

So why am I finally getting host chairs after all these years? WELL, I've been thinking of the holidays, I'm tired of pulling out the metal folding chairs, and since my children are grown, someday they just might bring someone home with them. ;o)

So, I went on the hunt for chairs. First, I thought new. I looked at At Home, then Pier One, then World Market. Nothing that fit my style or ideas.

Then Friday, I went to my favorite consignment store and found two of these. Hmm, nice and sturdy, the price was right (both were cheaper than one new one!) and I know with paint and new fabric they will blend with my other ones. Ok, SOLD!! I loaded them up and brought them home.

Yuck, need to pull off the dirty fabric and wash down the chairs.

Then paint them with my same DIY chalk paint, followed by wax. Recover the seats with some Waverly fabric I found at Wal-Mart - $6.44 a yard! Crazy, right?

And here they are! They turned out so pretty!

Of course, I had to dress my "new" table for Autumn - starting with a Fall runner, then a glass cake stand in the middle, some gourds and mini pumpkins, and a leaf garland along the middle.

I set the table with my woodland chargers, red dinner plates, with the leaf salad plate on top.

All set for Fall!

I'm in love with this set again and am thrilled with the "new" host chairs. Here's to many more family dinners at this table and many happy memories.

  2. Looks so inviting!!! I love your plates. Where did you find them? I really want to go to a pottery place and paint Christmas/winter plates with snowflakes on them. Simple white plates with silver snowflakes. Interested?

  3. They turned out perfect! Love that Waverly fabric! Isn't it awesome when you find what you wanted at a thrift store for a fraction of the price? I just love when that happens. Your fall tablescape is so pretty. I'm finally going to drag my fall stuff out of the shed on Saturday morning. I am getting ready to decorate with the cooler temps we've been having, Have a great rest of the week!

  8. Cecelia, there are such a great addition to the set. They look like they belong there now that you have made them over. And the fabric is lovely. Isn't it great when we can keep our old things as new of course.

    1. Thanks, Mary! Isn't it amazing how paint unifies pieces? It is wonderful to make our old things new to where we want to keep them. Hope you are having a good week.

  10. Cecilia, I love the two chairs you found and I'm with you, I'd rather find something second hand and make it my own then spend a fortune on new!
That fabric was a steal, it is so pretty!
And your set table is beautiful, love the leaf plates...and using a cake stand in the center of your table is genius - I am so copying that idea...I have never seen that done before!
Love the oil painting off in the distance too.
It's all beautiful! Can I come over for turkey? ;)

    1. Thanks, Kimberely! ive actually seen others use a cake stand. I think it's a good idea to add height. The painting is actually watercolor and one I almost threw away. Fortunately, I hung onto it and after a few years, got it back out and fixed the problem area. I like it now.
Sure, come on over! Wouldn't that be fun?
