Heartwood

When we bought our farm and I started blogging about it, I wanted a unique name that described not only the beautiful place but also everything we felt about it.

I came up with several names:

There was Three Crow Farm for the three crows that were always around,

Belhaven was a resounding no,

Tanglewood was a strong contender as the woods are very tangled from years of neglect

but none ever really resonated with us. So we just called it "The B Farm" since our last name starts with a "B". Not very original but it worked.

Fast forward almost three years. Bruce decided to cut down the dead trees along the driveway.

There were a couple fairly close together - when he cut the second one, we saw this:

A heart shaped trunk.

Bruce cut some slices of it and then he causally said, "We can name the place 'Heartwood'".

Oh. Yes. That's perfect. Our hearts have been completely captured by our beautiful little farm and woods.

So the B Farm now has its official name:

                                                                "HEARTWOOD"

And as for the heart shaped tree trunk slices - we are going to figure out how to make a sign either to hang by our someday new gate or maybe over the fireplace.

Do you name your places? I'd love to hear what they are.

  1. Sounds like the perfect name! What a treasure to see a "love note" from God on your farm! Can't wait to see what you come up with for the heart slices!

    1. Indeed, Nici! It felt like God was smiling at us. What's really cool is I've seen more "love notes" from God around. A small dead tree also had a heart-shaped trunk although not as pronounced, and I've noticed others too. God has given me so much to delight in here. The name is appropriate!

Hey, Patty, I have a knee question...did you experience stiffness after a year? Mine is popping and gets stiff. Argh!

  3. That is so unbelievably meaningful and seridipitious Cecilia! I love it!

Your farm is so pretty, it's easy to see why it's captured your hearts. You may know there is a music venue near us called Tanglewood. It's rather well known so it's probably a good thing you didn't pick that name, but I like all the others, including bell haven :).

Are you officially changing your blog name or will it simply be what you have showing on your header now?

    1. Lol, that's funny. Yeah, it didn't seem right anyway because we aren't going to leave ir neglected. Been slowly cleaning it up so it wasn't hoing yo stay "tangled"!
No, not changing the name of the blog for now...just showing it in the header.

  4. What a perfect name for your farm! That heart shape tree trunk is so beautiful. I can't wait to see the sign(s) you make. I liked some of the other names, but this one is the best! Are you changing your blog name?

    1. Isn't that the coolest thing ever? I love it! I really hope we can figure out how to make a sign with it...it's so pretty! No, not changing the blog name as of now. Too much work, I think. Lol. Maybe in the future. We'll see.

  6. Hi Cecilia!
I love HEARTWOOD! I liked some of the others too...but this one is perfect! I have always wanted to name our place...but it never caught on with the family. I guess I live among 'no namers'. After I joined Instagram... I began referring to our place as Lively Manor. It's not our name-- but the community we live in. It suits us. (well the Manor part is playing it up a bit!) hahaha!
I can't wait to see your heartwood art!

    1. Thanks, Pat! I almost added Manor to ours....Heartwood Manor but as you said, that'd be playing it up a bit.
I just want to let you know, I've been having issues replying to your blog. Maybe it's my device! But I've been reading when I get the silly iPad to let me.
