Memory Shadow Box Makeover

Y'all, I had an epic "finishing the project" fail. It all started with me wanting to redo my mom's Memory Shadow Box and so I started a post to share it with you all. Here's how it all went down:

Mom's birthday was the 6th. She would have been 85. She's been gone 12 years and I still miss her so much. I really want to sit down with her and ask her how she managed six children, ask her questions I never thought to ask until now. Somehow the time seemed right to remake her memory shadow box.  I shared it  here a couple of weeks ago.

I've really wanted to redo it for awhile now. The items weren't placed in the best configuration and I was tired of the golden oak frame. So I took it apart and started playing with the placement of items.

I left the beaded purse where it was, moved the gloves, and completely rearranged the rest.

It was better but it still needed something so I started looking to see what else of Mom's I had. I found this sweet little angel in a box of her Christmas ornaments. She loved angels. I don't know who gave her this one but she's pretty and the color goes well with the rest of the items in the box.

hmmm, still needs something down in the left-hand corner:

I decided to add a sand dollar as the coast was such a large part of vacations and memories we have of her. We always went looking for these and were thrilled when we found them. It is the perfect touch, I think.

The frame got a coat of Benjamin Moore's Palladian Blue after I taped off the glass (I couldn't remove it as it was glued into the frame). It's really a soft aqua but it goes with the other blues in the guest room where I have her bedroom furniture. Then I put it all back together.

I love the sweet memories it brings to mind and I think I will put it above the dresser in the guest room when we go to the farm this weekend....

And this my friends is where I failed. I had everything in a pile by the front door for Bruce to load up except the shadow box...I didn't want it to get broken. Yep, I went off and left it and by the time we got to the farm, I realized I had forgotten to pick it up. So I don't have a final picture to show you of where I placed it. All I can do is show you where I might of placed it:

Or the place I left it for safety's sake. Sigh:
It's still there

But isn't it lovely?

Sadly, the color on the frame doesn't show up very well in this picture. Perhaps the next time we go to the farm, I won't forget it and then when I hang it, I will get a better picture.

And that is my story of my epic fail.

Until next time,

Cecilia

    1. Aw, thanks Gail. No I didn't really fail...I failed to pick it up and that messed up the way I wanted my post to go. Lol.
Yes, she did - she didn't have a lot of fancy things so she hung onto the ones she did. I'm happy to have them.

  4. Fail? I don't think so - it's lovely. You'll remember it next time and then I'd love to see another photo. Doesn't it just bug you when you leave things you're excited about behind? Argh.

    1. Its.so.frustrating. Karen! You know how it is...you have to plan things out so you can have what you need on Gand and then leave a key item behind. Sigh. But the box turned out great and next time I'll take it and get a pretty picture of it hanging up in its place of honor.

  5. Oh my...I was worried that it was broken when you said fail! No fail...except maybe your memory...lol! Much like mine...if I don't put a reminder in my phone or make myself a note, I'd forget my head! :) Your guest room is so pretty and I think it would look great in any spot you put it. It turned out great...:) Have a wonderful week!

    Blessings, Vicky

  7. Cecilia...it's lovely. I'm sorry you left it behind when you went to the farm. That was aggravating, huh? If you're hanging it on the wall, does that mean you glued everything ?

    1. Thanks, Patty. No I poked holes in the backing then sewed most of them on. Only used glue on a couple of areas and double stick tape on the photo.

    2. good ideas ! I thought about sewing, but couldn't think of how to do the photo. Forgot about the doublestick stuff. I love the whole idea and I think at some point may do something like this for mom and dad. Thanks for sharing !

    3. There's also Velcro sticky tape for heavier items. I need to do one for my dad too, but I'm having a hard time finding a ready-made box the right size. I may have to talk my hubby into making one.

  11. Oh Cecilia - this is beautiful !
You've displayed so perfectly - with the picture of your Mom included - what a beautiful lady she was
( although she looks like a young girl in the pic - how old was she ? )
And nothing to do with it - but OMG I'm in love with that dresser it's sitting on for safety too!
( don't mention Soda - I'm overcome with guilt right now LOL )

    1. Thanks, Suzan! I agree she was beautiful! She was 18 in this photo. My mom called the piece a buffet and it was the one antique I told her I really wanted. You'll get a kick out of this: when she got it, it was painted white - she stripped it back to the natural wood. That happened long before I remember. Anyway, it sits in my dining room where I store serving pieces and linens in it.
      (Soda? Who's that :D)
      Hugs
