Dreaming of an Office/Library Space

Our living room at the farm is challenging - it's small...cozy.That's not a bad thing really. But, with two armchairs and a loveseat, it feels crowded. Sure we could get rid of some furniture. Yet again, we'd really like for people to have places to sit when they visit. And a full sized sofa would really overwhelm the space. Plus it has an awkward layout with the fireplace angled on the wall.

A good solution would be to close in the garage and use it as the living room. It would definitely give us more space. It already has paneling on the walls (it will need to be painted) and two nice windows.

Then the current living room with the fireplace can become Bruce's office with my dream feature - a library spot. Since Bruce already has a mission style desk and shelf, I can envision this space with a western flavor. Here's what I'm thinking:

Mission style furniture

(We'd add more shelving along the wall for all our books. Plus, I'd leave an armchair in there by the fireplace for a cozy reading spot. Perfection!)

Bruce has a really cool Texas map he bought from a artist. It's big and will make an nice focal point. (Sorry for the awful picture - I couldn't get a good one of it)

I would use western accents I already have like my grandfather's saddle,

 a cowhide rug,

and cowboy boots.

Here, I placed my boots on the fireplace and styled them for the 4th of July.

I added a flag, wooden Uncle Sam with a rusty star, windmill painting, antlers and a shooting star garland.

The boots add the perfect touch, don't you think? If you're wanting a pair for yourself, you can find some nice ones here.

The office/library is just a dream for now. Once we move to the farm full-time, we can make it a reality. Then you'll find me snuggled up by the fireplace in my comfy chair, enjoying a good book.

Until next time,

  1. Ahhhhh...so THAT'S your idea :). Too bad you don't live near me. I have lots of western items that won't be making the trip to NC with us.

So if you make the change, does that mean you won't have a garage?
