Love Your Pet Day

Did you know tomorrow is Love Your Pet Day? I didn't either. But yes, there's a day set aside for loving your pet...haha, as if we need to be reminded to love on them. I don't know about you, but my fur babies are spoiled. :o)

One of the ways Buddy and Herbie,  my border collies, get spoiled is taking them to their favorite places to run and play. Of course, their top spot is the farm. Here, they have a very large yard to run and play in. They jump happily out of the truck the minute we open the door and dash around the yard.

Then they are ready to go walking (or actually running) around the farm. They wait impatiently at the gate and zoom off when we tell them "ok". They're actually getting better at coming back when we call them. :o)

They come home tired but happy. They love the farm!

But what do we do when we're in the city? Well, we live near Austin, TX which happens to have lots of dog friendly areas. We take them to the park close to our house where they splash in the creek and pull us along the hike and bike trail.

Or we take them to Lake Pflugerville. Here there's a 3 mile hiking trail around the lake where they love to explore. On warm days (which are plenty in Texas), we let them swim. We keep them on a leash so we can control how far out they swim. They love it!

It's important for them to get exercise (just like us!). Another way I spoil them is to make sure they have the best care when I have to leave them behind. (Sorry, guys. You can't go with us to Boston!) I'm fortunate to have my sister close by. She loves on them like they're her own. But what if you don't have someone you know who's willing and able? I just discovered there's a pet sitting service in Austin and other cities that matches your local area with pet sitters. It's called Rover.com.  You get to browse through potential sitters, arrange a meet and greet, then pick the one that fits you and your pets the best. I'd definitely give them a try if I ever needed a pet sitter!

I'm glad to know they exist! You can bet I'll keep them in mind if my sister is ever unavailable to watch Buddy and Herbie for me. Peace of mind is priceless when it comes to our fur babies.

  1. I didn't know it was Love Your Pet Day tomorrow. My Tia is very spoilt now compared to the life she had before she was rescued. She loves to run out into the mud on the Fens and then sits down for a quick bath and groom afterwards. I think she enjoys that part xx Tia says hi to Buddie and Herbie xx

  2. Your dogs are so cute, and deservedly spoiled. I've heard border collies are one of the smartest breeds, as well as being so energetic. I guess I need to throw a quick post together on my Doyle. :)

Farm Laundry Room Wall

This weekend I got the laundry room painted - walls, trim, and shelves. Yay!! It looks fresh and bright.

And because I got all the painting done, I was able to get the accent wall done ( thanks to my husband for his help!). When I began planning, I wanted to do something to the walls that would give it some interest. I thought of beadboard or a rough plaster texture but I wanted a more rustic look. Rough wood planks (as in old fence pickets) or what I really, really wanted was rusty tin. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough old fence pickets or somewhere to get rusty tin for either option.

I had just about decided to go with beadboard when I just happened to mention the rusty tin idea to one of my sisters. She said she knew where she could get some, so how much did I need? Yes! I quickly measured, told her, and in a few weeks had some tin panels. Perfect...only they weren't rusty. She told me the rusty ones were too far gone so she decided to bring me these. Ok, I can rust them…

Thanksgiving sign

I can't stand it...I was going to post this next week but I'm dying to show it off! I know, I know, now I will have to come up with a new post for next week. That's ok. I'm having fun with this and so enjoy it. You make it so much more so! So thanks for reading and leaving comments. I am thankful for you! Anyway, here's my farm mantel post:

My mantel needed help. Everything I placed there got lost against the brick. Painting it isn't an option - that was voted down very emphatically! However, I painted the trim around the fireplace to match the surrounding walls and ah, that looks better - blends instead of sticking out like a sore thumb.

Also, it doesn't quite line up with the fireplace. Or the fireplace isn't centered on the wall. Who designed this anyway?! I can't tell you how many quirky things we've found in this house. I think it's  called character! ha.

To help it look better, I decided it needed a wooden sign. I picked a favorite sc…

Cozy Christmas Farmhouse at The B Farm

Hello my friends! Today I'm sharing The B Farm all cozied up for Christmas as part of the Cozy At Christmas Blog Tour. It's five days of Christmas goodness - I hope you will pop over and visit the other ladies. I'll share the links at the bottom of my post.

This year, I'm crazy about plaid! What? You too? To me, it just says "cozy" and "homey".

To begin, I dressed the table with red plaid placemats and red napkins from Audrey of Timeless Treasures. The plaid stockings are actually silverware holders my friend Susan gave me a couple of years ago. So cute!
The red pillows on the bench were wrapped with red and white plaid ribbon. They remind me of presents! The green plates with pinecone motif were a Good Will find many years ago.

Then in the kitchen window, I hung some crocheted lace also from Audrey. It's not plaid but it says farmhouse cozy to me!

Isn't it pretty?

The cute red and white checked apron (another wonderful item from Audrey) han…
