My day started off just like any other, feed the dogs, eat breakfast, go out to fill the bird feeders. The dogs always get rambunctious that first trip out. As I was walking out to the feeder, they ran full force into the back of my knee.
Yeah, you know where this is going...
They were just playing, I wasn't paying attention and I ended up on the ground...in.pain. It took awhile but I finally made it back into the house, unable to bend my knee or put weight on it. My son was home fortunately ( had to wake him up ) and he got me into a chair and some ice. Called my husband. He called the dr and got me in.
It's officially broken.
Here's praying nothing was torn. I'll know that Thursday. For now, I'm laying on the daybed with a brace on my leg, pain pills to dull the ache, and ice on the knee. I'd appreciate prayers for healing. Thanks,
Cecilia
Thursday: thankfully nothing is torn. Will have outpatient surgery to remove bone fragment. Guess I won't be doing any big projects for awhile.

ReplyDeleteIt is Diana. The dr thinks it is only that but making sure. I will let you know. Thank you for the prayers.
DeleteNothing is torn but will have surgery to remove a bone fragment. Will be laid up for awhile.
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your accident. Prayers and good thoughts going your way for a speedy recovery! Your dear four legged friends probably sense something is wrong. Hope there's no tear and wish you the best as you heal from this mishap.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gail. Me too! Just need to get past these first days. And they do, poor dears. They didn't mean too!
DeleteOh no! I'm sending good thoughts!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen.
DeleteWhat?!!! Oh no!! This is terrible :(. You actually broke your knee?. I'm sooooooo sorry!
ReplyDeleteI went to the Dr. a few weeks ago because I did something to my knee while in boot camp. It's still sore but OMG, BROKEN? I still can't believe it Cecilia. What happens now?
Yes, broken. I get the MRI results tomorrow. The dr said we'd know what the treatment would be then. Hoping and praying nothing is torn! Meantime, keep it elevated and ice it.
DeleteSurgery to remove a bone fragment. Nothing torn, thankfully.
DeleteCecilia, I'm writing because this exact thing happened to me two years ago. When I tell people my dog broke my leg, they think he knocked me down, and FALLING broke it. Nope, he ran straight into the front hitting just below the knee with his collarbone. Like you, thought it was just bruised badly. Didn't go to doctor until next day because the knee was like a grapefruit. They drained it and since there was some blood, they realized it was broken, but took xrays to be sure. Didn't see a surgeon until the following week! ( I thought broken bones were tended to right away?!) Anyway, had surgery to put in a pin. I was scheduled to return in 10 days to have staples taken out. The night before my appointment I was having trouble breathing. I was afraid to go to sleep because I thought I might not wake up. When I got to my appointment I told the doctor about this and he sent me immediately downstairs for an ultrasound on my leg, and then an MRI on my lungs. I had multiple pulmonary emboli in both lungs. I broke down because I knew this was pretty serious. But then I felt calm, as if God whispered in my ear "you'll be fine." I was in the hospital for five days as they kept track of everything. I had some scary episodes, but they passed. I was put on blood thinners and went every month for testing. I was very familiar with all this, since I cared for my mom while she was doing this. After a year, I finally came off the blood thinners, but I am still fearful every time I feel something odd. I tell you this only to warn you and urge you to carefully pay attention to your body right now, and see a doctor if you have any of the symptoms as soon as you feel them. The surgeon told my husband about another patient who came off his blood thinners way to early and he died where he sat while watching tv. ...... It's an odd accident, I know, but I have to say, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with a leg-breaking dog ! Afterward, he was called Vito for awhile. Like an Italian who breaks legs for the mob, ya know? (grin) I pray you will be okay. Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have. I'm happy to help in any way I can.

Oh Patty, that is scary. Mine hit me from behind, the dr said it's cracked. Boy does it hurt. I will be sure to watch for symptoms. You're right, you can't be too careful. Thanks for the info. I appreciate it and the offer to contact you with questions.
DeleteHugs,
Cecilia
Oh my goodness! That is just terrible news! I hope you will have a fast recovery. I bet that IS painful! I'm so sorry to hear that you will be down for the count for a while. I bet you'll watch those dogs running around you EXTRA careful in the future!
ReplyDeleteDon't you know it? Making sure they are where I can see them so I can get out of the way! Lol
